Day of the Raptors

The ranch bird feeders fell quiet and were abandoned. Quietly, about 4-5 feet away was a large bird that at first appeared to be a buzzard. One paw-step closer and it was a large raptor. Fearless of me and Papa.

After a significant time next to us on the ground, it's mighty wing span lifted it and flew a few feet over to the top of a telephone pole...revealing what was about to be served for supper--a pack-rat.

As this huge bird of prey began eating--oblivious to Papa's camera flash--we observed something very special and rare. This raptor had no right "foot." The left "foot" held down supper, while it's wings provided balance atop the pole while the victim was consumed.

The next morning we were awoken by the screaming-pinging back and forth of the raptor, talking back and forth to another bird of prey across the ranch property.

I am glad I am not a little dog.

Snow Dreams On a 110 Degree June Day

"Oh boy...oh boy...oh boy! Let's go, go go! It's snow...snow...snow! Grrrrr....or, should it be brrrrr?!" -- Thelma & Louis

"I love it when it snows, Louise."

"Me too, Thelma."

"Where's Dukie? Let's go find him..."

"Dukie's not here, behind this Cholla cactus."

"Duke's not by the mailbox either..."

"I like it in here. You girls have fun!" --Dukie

Easter Bunnies and Eggs

During Easter time, the ranch is teeming with new life, including Easter Bunnies and the traditional hiding of the Easter eggs. Of course, I oversee bunny safety, and ensure nobody peeks during the hiding of the Easter Eggs. Mama Quail did her best to hide the Easter eggs . . . this time in the engine of our John Deere . . . Sophie, the dove, does her part by placing two eggs in the front porch hanging flower pot . . .

The Intersection of Work & Play

Cattle Dogs are workaholics. Thelma & Louise work, even when they play . . . and they always do it together, as a team. I get tired just watching them:

"Hey Weezy! Let's play! Whoo who!"

"Together now, let's go! "Mission control, we have lift off!"

Destination: Round pen (for round toy play, of course). Where no dog toy has gone before.

"We think we can; we think we can; we think we can . . ."

There they go . . .

God speed, Thelma & Louise!

Thelma, "No tugging allowed!"
Louise, "I'm not tugging!"

Louise, "But Capn' she can't take much more of this . . . the donut's about to blow!"

Thelma, "It's hard to believe we come from the same litter . . . Move it! Move it! Move it!"

"Turn right, Thelma . . ."

"Mission Control, the donut has landed."

That's one small pawprint for dog, one pawprint for dog-kind.

Thelma, "I love it when a plan comes together."

Louise, "Bark-blah, bark-blah, bark-blah . . . "

Dog Park

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! Dog Park day! Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah! Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. Hurry, hurry, hurry!

Thelma, Louise! Check it out!

Let's Part-tay!

Big humans, little humans, big dogs, little dogs--oh boy!

Thelma, be polite and say "Hi!"

Awww . . . Doggie time flies. Time to go already?! Blasted!
